The most solid basis for developing your business is to create a consistent system. Companies must invest in a consistent process, both in the operational and in the project’s area that allows them to achieve sustainable growth.

We have contact with many companies, some smaller than others, all with many good business ideas. However, we noticed that the fundamental problem is the lack of consistency in organizational processes. There is inconsistency in the relations with staff, with vendors and with clients.

When you think of your company as a whole, and look to the future, your mind creates an idea of how to work. It soon appears, sometimes unconsciously, the need to manage people and process in an integrated way.

But there are a lot of methodologies, a lot of technologies, and a lot of software totally disconnected from each other. The first step is to focus on the future, to learn about what methodologies exist in the market, and especially how these methodologies can be integrated.

    2 Conceitos base da Gestão de Portfólio



    Como tantas outras empresas com certeza já pensou em ter uma listagem dos seus projetos, e talvez, até poder colocá-los agrupados por prioridade. Mas a gestão de portfólio de projetos é muito mais do que isso.

    A gestão de portfólio é a maneira como a empresa decide onde investir os seus recursos, de forma a obter um ótimo balanço entre risco e desempenho, com a finalidade de atingir os objetivos estratégicos da organização.

    Existem dois momentos de suma importância para a empresa: a seleção de projetos, e a monitorização do impacte desses projetos nos objetivos empresariais.

    Seleção de projetos

    A seleção de projetos é um processo de base da gestão de portfólio, e deve formar parte do acervo de processos da sua empresa. Neste processo, a empresa deverá definir quais os atributos necessários para que um projeto seja selecionado, e como esse projeto irá contribuir para as metas organizacionais.

    Neste processo serão respondidas as seguintes questões:

    • Qual é o procedimento para selecionar projetos dentro da empresa?
    • Qual é o procedimento para priorizar os projetos?
    • Estou a investir os meus recursos nos projetos que me geram mais valor?
    • A empresa tem capacidade para realizar o trabalho que foi planeado para os próximos anos?
    • Todos os projetos da empresa estão alinhados com a estratégia?

    A gestão de portfólio mostra as relações entre os projetos que estão a ser executados, o ponto de situação em termos de âmbito, prazo e custo assim como apresenta de forma real o contributo destes projetos nas metas organizacionais e nos objetivos estratégicos definidos. A que questões responde a gestão de portfólio quando os projetos estão a ser executados? Ficam aqui alguns exemplos:

    • O portfólio de projetos atual está a atingir as metas organizacionais definidas? Se não, Como posso rebalancear o meu portfólio?
    • Estamos a ser eficientes na alocação dos nossos recursos?

    A gestão de portfólio ajuda a mudar o foco de custos para investimento. A pergunta de ordem é: estou a investir no que é preciso? Como? Em quais projetos?

    Não é suficiente fazer uma listagem de projetos e definir prioridades. A melhor forma de começar, é desenvolver primeiro a estratégia da empresa. Analisar onde estamos hoje, e o que se pretende fazer no futuro. Sem uma visão clara de onde estamos e para onde vamos é difícil realizar uma gestão de portfólio que faça sentido.

    Gamification is a person-centered educational approach based on games. Traditionally, we think of gamification as computer games, but in Emeteclass we don’t use game software, we play with real projects to learn serious concepts and methodologies like Innovation, Project Management and Sustainability in a practical way.

    Our training focuses on practicing interpersonal aspects needed, such as leadership, team building, teamwork, decision making, communication and negotiation.

    Here are some aspects of gamification we use:

    • Collaboration. Leadership, team building, teamwork, decision making, communication and negotiation, are skills you need to collaborate with people in your team and with people in other teams.
    • Competition. You are competing with other teams, and in some training, you are competing globally.
    • Discovery. People love to explore. We give opportunities to our training for participants to discover something new. :)
    • Fun. We promise you a lot of fun!
    • Goals. The team has several goals to achieve that are explained at the beginning.
    • Rules. The rules of the game are explained, there are rules inherited with the methodologies learned, but there are rules inherited with interpersonal aspects too.
    • Points. The points are accumulated early from the beginning and the team wins points if they apply the rules correctly, in order to achieve goals.
    • Progression. We constantly give players feedback on their progress.
    • Rewards. We want to make sure the participants feel the value of their actions during the training.
    • Surprise. Participants don’t expect surprises and we introduce some scenarios that have an emotional impact.
    • Status. In some training, you have the possibility to see your team in the Hall of Fame.
    • Time. We use countdowns, and record all timed activities for maximum effect.

    It’s possible to learn like a child… When we grow up, we begin to learn in a theoretical way that is totally disconnected from practice. Most training does not teach how to put their knowledge into practice, or, they do practical exercises that are theoretical cases. The use of real projects in the practical part of the training allows us to learn more deeply, learning concepts by practicing them rather than by direct instruction. The introduction of games allows us to make this learning more enriching, so it stays in our memory for a longer time.

    The Challenge

    To help our client develop the new platform for their rental program service.

    The Outcome

    The new website is for timeshare members or owners of their resorts. We changed the old IT platform and added the capability to enroll units in different available offers, and the capacity to see special offers and intervals in demand during the year.

    Our client is a travel agency formed by a multidisciplinary team of professionals specialized in the timeshare industry. After managing rental programs of many resorts for fifteen years, they decide to improve the platform with which they have for their customers, keeping some functionalities and adding new features to improve their service.

    Emeteclass collaborated by preparing the transition from the old application to the new one. Developing all the features concerned with units enrollment, their deposit and cancellation, status, and the process of inviting members with peak intervals to enroll their units and receive guaranteed rental income.

    Our client is now growing their business, and looking to expand their services.

    Gamification is the application of game-design elements and game principles in non-game contexts.

    We believe in the power of games and we use it in real situations, to increase effectivity in business processes. When we were children we learnt life lessons through games, but unfortunately when we became adults we forgot how to play in order to learn.

    The 1st Floor challenge is our first course that teaches through gamification, but one of our goals for the next three years is to add gamification to other courses, so that people are more involved in the learning process.

    The 1st Floor Challenge (T1FC) consists of a real Project Management situation in which each team builds a Drone, with the objective of applying Project Management, Sustainability and Design Thinking methodologies in an integrated way. This is considered an excellent team building activity.

    We are very happy with the results, until now we were present in 5 cities (Aveiro, Porto, Lisboa, Lyon, Panamá), for a total of 207 participants, and have done a total of 36 projects.

    One of our strengths is that we don’t use a computing game for learning, we use a real project for that.

    Gamification, is not only an excellent technique for the learning process, but also for changing people’s habits. For this reason, it’s been interesting to see the increasing use of Gamification for engaging with staff and external stakeholders over the past few years, with astounding results.

    If used correctly, it’s a powerful tool. It could even change the world. Any idea how?
